SNOW

Nevik: When we woke up today there was so much snow! The storm yesterday dumped a LOT of snow. The backyard is so full, it almost touches the fence. So cool. I played in the snow for a while with some of the neighbor kids, and with Papa. Papa and I also went to the movies - it was the last day of the FIFEM, and we went to go see Les Trois Brigands. It's about 3 bad guys who become good Papas. It was very funny. I liked it a lot.

Skye: I have 2 front teeth coming in and they hurt. That is why I am so crabby. I wake up often at night and I want to chew on stuff. I will be glad when they are finally in. I went outside to see Papa shoveling the snow and I smiled at him. Doesn't he look like he is working up a sweat?

Judo and the Retun of Winter

Nevik: Judo this morning - Ben was there. He is my favorite instructor. I received my gi today as well. Maman says that we will take a picture next week and post it. We were only 3 students today (wimping out because of the weather?) so Ben made all the papas do the class too. It was so funny! As we were coming home, the weather was getting really bad. I was going to go to the movies this afternoon, but I think I will stay home and play with Papa. We can go see the movie tomorrow.

Skye: I didn't go to Judo today because I was so tired. Maman stayed at home with me and cooked - braised lamb shanks. I was very focused walking this morning. I would push the wagon to the kitchen, someone would help turn me around, and I would walk all the way back to the living room, and then do it over. Oh yeah, I put my Clifford the big red dog pillow on the seat and gave it a ride. Every few steps I would stop, take off the pillow, do my funny face and put it back on and keep going. Awesome fun. By the way, dinner tonight, lamb and curried cauliflower, was brilliant. I made lots of happy sounds while I was eating.

The Spiderweb

Nevik: School and Zootherapie! Fun! We had a big St. Bernard visit us today. Her name was Kasha and she was really nice. We took her out for a walk around the neighbourhood, to parc De Gaspé, and fed her snow (Maman's note - I am not sure that is good for dogs) and threw sticks for her. It was such a nice day, real sugaring-off weather, that we played the whole time outside. Then Maman and Skye came to get me and I didn't want to go. Finally I got hungry and we went and had lunch. We were supposed to go skating again, but Maman couldn't get the car out of the snowbank so we went to the Spiderweb instead. Do you see me - I am all the way at the top! When we came home, we made hot chocolate with whipped cream, just like in the café.

Skye: Decent nap this morning, although I was still pretty cranky. I think I am starting to go through separation anxiety. Man I don't like it when I can't see my Maman. Anyway, I played at the spiderweb too, but then I got bored. We stopped at the marché to pick up some food and that was way more interesting.

A walk in the Vieux Port

Nevik: It was such a nice day that we went for a walk in the old port with Cathy (Thomas' Grandmaman) and Adam. We went to the river to see the ice and looked at all the boats moored on the Quay. We played in the snow, saw a train go by and had our snack in the sun. We took the métro there and back and by the end, I was pooped. I walked the whole way - probably close to 3 km, all though it felt like 100km.

Skye: I was pretty happy go lucky today. I enjoyed my walk in the fresh air.

Nevi and M Proust's Madelenes

Nevik: Today I woke up and it was blowing snow and sleet and freezing rain and yuck! School was cancelled and we got to go to the movies instead. I chose Toupie and Binou. It started at 10h00 and we had to run to make the bus, but we got there before the movie started. I was so excited to go that I got myself dressed- snowpants, parka, boots and mitts. In the afternoon Maman and I made Madelenes - delicious on a snowy afternoon with blueberry tea!

Skye: The movie was a little boring. I liked crawling around on the floor and trying to pick up the lights in the floor. Being outside today was hard - it was so windy that it made it hard to breathe.

Nevik: Gymnastics - what a workout. I do the balance beam all by my self. On the trampoline, my Maman says that I jump like a wet noodle. After class, we went to Thomas' and Adams' to play. I played outside in the tunnel that Clément dug and had a great time. In the afternoon, we went to the ice rink in Kanawake and got to skate. We hat the whole rink to ourselves! Shooter lent me a support so I could go on the ice myself. I was most impressed with the green juice that the older kids were drinking - Maman called it gatorade. It looked amazing but my crabby Maman wouldn't let me have any.

Skye: I get to climb around at Gym and it is alot of fun. I sure would like to do some of those activities - the trampoline looks like the bomb! I don't remember much of the skating - I fell asleep. I was hungry that evening - when there is lots to do during the day, who wants to take time out to eat?

FIFEM

Nevik: The Festival International de Film pour Enfant de Montréal started this weekend, so we went to the cinema. We watched les Devinettes de Rainette. I liked them very much, and I laughed a lot. Then my friend Ella came over to play.

Skye: I fell asleep in the movies. I had fun at home playing with Nevi and Ella. It is fun to watch the older kids because they give me lots of good ideas of things to try.

At Weeah's and Lola's

Nevik: We played at Lola's and Olivia's this afternoon because Maman and Papa went to Ikea. It is fun at their house because they have a big playroom. We played outside in the snow, too. That evening we had dinner at Grandmaman's and Granpapa's and I fell asleep on the way home.

Skye: I liked playing with Lola and Olivia. There are lots of things to play with at their house. I didn"t have a very good nap, and I was pretty tired by dinner.

Judo

Nevik: On Saturdays I have Judo practice in the morning. Maman, Papa, Skye and I all go. We take the metro. I do some of my practice on my own, and some with Papa. It is so much fun. We run around, play games like crocodile (the person who is it has to catch the others. 'it' is on his hands and knees and the others can only walk) and jump over the ropes (ropes on the mats that you have to jump over) and do judo moves. I am beat when I am done.
I put some pictures of the bulbs that Maman and I planted in January. The narcisse and one of the hyacinth are blooming. Aren't they pretty?

Skye: I got up at 5h30 today, all bright eyed and bushy tailed. It is a good thing that Papa is an early-morning kind of guy. Maman would find it very hard getting up at that time of day! I only had 2 mini naps today so I think that I will go to bed early. (I have been asleep since 15h15 - it is now 20h30 - will it last the night? Let's keep Maman and Papa guessing. Their theory has always been 'don't wake a sleeping baby'- stay tuned tomorrow to find out if it worked!)

School and Play

Nevik: ah, Friday. School in the morning, lunch, a visit from Marc, playing Mastermind and Cribbage with Maman, baking choco nut yummies, watching a BBC documentary on volcanos, and playing in the bath. Great stuff.

Skye: I liked playing with the stuffed animals. I also had a good time with Nevi's t-rex. I ate a lot - apple slices, mackerel, rice, carrots, muffin, pasta, celeriac, arctic char and caribou. yum. I love to eat. It is so good. I am getting very good at cruising - next step, letting go.

Sledding at Grandmaman's

Nevik: Maman took a blog- break, but now we are back! Today I didn't have school, so we went to Grandmaman's to play. Olivia and Lola were there too. We played with tinkertoys. Then we went sledding. Maman and I did some jumps - wheeeeeee!

Skye: I was in great shape today - I woke up at 5h15. I was having a great time with Papa in the morning. He gave me my favorite breakfast - blueberries, cereal flakes, and soy milk. Deelich! Playing with the cousins was fun, but I got mad when I had to have a nap - I know that they were doing something fun without me.

Playing with Grandmaman and Grandpapa

Nevik: Grandmaman came over today and played bionicle with me. We went over to her house after and played more bionicle. I like playing with bionicle - I take them apart and then put them back together again. And again. Maman says that it is my engineer genes.

Skye: I played with Papa in the morning, Grandmaman in the late morning and afternoon, and Maman at dinner. I ate lots of yummy stuff - sweet potato, pasta, chicken, broccoli, potato, puffs, soy milk and fruit. I love eating. I practiced my standing and even let go for a second.

Playing Bionicle

Nevik: This morning Maman and I played bionicle. It is so much fun to take them apart and put them back together again. Uncle Eric found a great website that has all kinds of lego instruction booklets. We make all kinds of lego and bionicle stuff. We also went ice skating and had lunch with Alex and Talia. In the afternoon I played with Raphael and Guillaume.

Skye: When we went skating matante Peggy carried me on her back. It was fun seeing Maman from the front. I had a long nap in the afternoon.

Nevik: I went to Petits Pas vers l'École at Notre Dame de la Défence. It was my first day at my real school. I was very excited. The weather was terrible so I was the only one there! I still had fun looking at all the new things and playing with all the toys. Maman and Skye stayed and chatted with Joséanne, my teacher. She is the same teacher that I have at the Maisonette. I even got homework. I was so excited that I spent all day doing my homework and saying 'don't help me with my homework. I can do it myself.' It was amazing. Mononcmarc came over to play and first I showed him my homework. Then we played mummy and pirate. That is me painting Marc's face like a skull. Cool. I'm a pirate.

Skye: I went to school with Nevi and I thought that I was going to come home after and have my nap, but we stayed there. It was fun - I got to explore a new place. I was pretty tired so I had a power nap. I was crotchety after that, had another nap in the afternoon, was still crotchety and went to bed at 16h30.

Petits Pas and Bébé Massage

Nevik: School again. Fun fun fun. Then we went to Grandmaman's house for the afternoon. I played legos all afternoon with her. More fun fun fun. We came home for dinner and I fell asleep in the car. I hate that.

Skye: I had my first day of bébé massage. Somebody forgot to tell the teacher that she scheduled it right during my morning nap. Not cool. So I fussed and then fell asleep. so there.

Gandmaman chez nous

Nevik: I had gymnastics today, but I was out of sorts. Kind of out to lunch, you know. Then, I fell on the escalator and hurt my knee. Now I have a bruise. When we got home, my favorite person in the whole wide world was there - Grandmaman! And she played with me the whole day, and stayed for dinner, and helped with my bath, and read me stories, and slept over. Well, not that last part, although I would have liked it very much.

Skye: I ate chocolate pudding and I thought it was awesome. I also had a 3 hour nap in the afternoon which my maman thought was awesome. I played with Grandmaman, too. I crawled around and messed up her puzzles. It was fun.

The most funnest bestest day

Nevik: What a cool day. I did so many great things with all my friends, I didn't want it to end. In the morning I went sledding with Alex, Ella, Matéo and Oceanne. Good start to the day. Then we had lunch at Ella's and played with her toys. Even better. Then we dropped Alex off and Koffi and Zao were playing outside. I played with them and we dug up treasures and diamonds out of the snow. Then we had cookies and hot chocolate. Best. Then Maman went shopping with matante Peggy so I got to go play inside Koffi, Zao and Loa's house. Wicked. I played with the castle. Then, after I thought that it couldn't get any better, we had dinner at Alex' house. Awesome. I was in heaven.

Skye: We did alot of running around today. The naps weren't that great. I did have fun. I got to suck a banana right out of the peel - so cool. I got to eat wild mushroom risotto which I liked very much. Oh my, you should have seen the glorious mess! Maman says that in all the excitement of the day, the camera battery was dead so they are no pics to document this wonderful day.

Nevik: We went bowling with all the mononcles and matantes Poulain. That's Papa's aunts and uncles. I had a great time. I got 2 strikes! Then we went to Sylvie's for Vietnamese. Yum.

Skye: Bowling was lame. I would have much rather napped. I did get lots of attention, mainly because I am cute.

Nevik: School again! With Zoothérapie! Dominique brought a dog with her and we played with it and walked it around the school. We didn't go outside with it because it was too nasty. After school Mononcjoel came over to play. We did face painting - I painted Joel's face like a green space monster. For dinner I made lasagna with Maman - Yum!

Skye: I fell asleep on the way to Nevi's school today, and when I woke up we were walking around Mile End, so I had a nice nap in the carrier. I, too got to play with Joel but I was way more interested in Beans the dog. I liked him so much that I shared half my bagel with him. I had a big nap this afternoon and ate a whole bunch of lasagna for dinner - by-my-self, of course.

The Biodome

Nevik: We trekked to the Biodome today with a whole gang of friends - Alex and Thalia, Florien and Nicolas, Skye and myself and the Mamans. Whew. First the bus, then the métro, then walking, then back to the métro and the bus and then the car home. We had lots of fun running around the Biodome looking at the animals (as much as we could at that speed), finding ourselves on the map (Nevi), sliding down the slide (everyone), jumping with the Penguins (Alex), watching the crocs (Florien) and all kinds of other things. We got to eat lunch in the restaurant there, too. I ran around with Alex and Florien and had a great time.

Skye: I got put in a stroller today - ok, I guess. I mean, it's kind of cool to be able to see my Maman instead of just being strapped to her. I ate some of Alex' rice for lunch. I like the Biodome because there is lots to see, but the Penguins swim too fast for me to follow.

Nevik: We had school today. I missed it a lot. I played with my friends and even made some new ones. This is my teacher Joséanne. I like her. We learned about the seasons and the weather. After school Maman and I made lasagne, just like Garfield in the movie. Except Garfield didn't put spinach in his lasagne.

Skye: I woke up at 6 am as usual, and got up with Papa. He drank his coffee and played with me. Then I got to eat some corn and kamut puffs. I think they are the best food ever invented. I love them. I can eat and eat and eat them. After, I had a little nap in the morning, some lunch and an even smaller nap in the afternoon. I liked going to Petit Pas vers l'École to pick up Nevi - there are so many things to see and play with. Next week I will do an activity at the Maisonette - baby massage. It will be fun!

Snot Monster eating Blueberries

Nevik: Gymnastics again! Yeah! I love gymnastics. I went a little crazy today because I was so happy, how I missed that fast track. After gym, we go to the bleachers at the pool and eat our snack. There we can watch the divers practice. I like it when they dive off the super tall platform. Grandmaman came over today and we went to the Biodome - it was great! The man at the entrance gave me a map and boy oh boy did I follow where we were on that map. I am going to bring it back the next time.

Skye: I like gym because I get to crawl around on the really springy floors. nifty. The Biodome was cool too - lots and lots of stuff to see. The animals were moving around quite a bit and Maman said something about how we squirm around when we are waiting for our feeding time. For supper I had sweet potato, pasta and blueberries. Blueberries are the funnest things on the planet - you can eat and wear them!

Hittin' a jump on the Gorky Glider

Nevik: On Saturday, Sunday and Monday I went sledding. I am becoming quite adept at doing jumps with my sled. Maman was worried but I showed her. I even got air on this jump, but you can't see it in the picture. I love sledding. I don't like pulling the sled up the hill, and being the spoiled little kid that I am, my mom usually pulls it up for me. Next year, I say.

Skye: Sledding is fun only if I am going down too. I hate just waiting at the top.

Visiting Alexandre in Repentigny

Nevik: We went to play at my friend Alexandre's house. His sister Jessica was there too because she didn't have school. They live kind of far - in Repentigny. It seemed to take forever to get there. (my concept of time is still relatively short - it's either now or it's taking too long.) We had tons of fun playing with cars and trucks, blocks, drawing pictures, playing play dough and running around. We got to eat lasagna for lunch and I ate 2 helpings!

Skye: I had fun too. Lots of action. That's always good. Then I played with Lola at Grandmaman's house.

Return to Bibliotheque Mile End

Nevik: We went to the Mile End library to play with the games. My favorite is the Playmobile castle. I love taking it apart and putting it back together. Alex was there too and he played with the Duplo helicopter and firetruck. In the afternoon I played at home with my Playmobile and with pumpkin seeds. Mononcmarc came for dinner.

Skye: I practiced crawling and standing. I am learning how to hold on to things with one hand and how to move my feet in a forward movement. When I get upset or agitated, I say mamamamammamammamamam. Maman thinks that I am calling to her -well, duh. I like to try and imitate things that I see and hear - banging, jumping, stacking, sounds, smiles, a much more!

Nevik: (at noon) I am playing with fairyland playmobile.
Nevik: I played with playmobile all day! It was alot of fun. Maman and I started building a castle on the back porch. It is going to be huge, and it will have tunnels. This evening we went to see a school on my street - L'École Petite Patrie - because I might go there when I am 5. It was nice - 3 stories. My parents said that it looked liked a nice elementary school. Mononcmarc stopped by just as I was getting in bed, so I got a special goodnight.

Skye: Today Maman and Nevi put up my crib. I fussed a little before my naps, but I am getting used to it. I spent most of the day practicing standing and crawling. Those playmoblies are tempting, too!

chillin' at home on a winters' day

Nevik: Papa stayed home from work today. Grandmaman came over to play. I did legos, puzzles (the hard ones with 100 pieces), made cookies and played cribbage.

Skye: I am feeling better today. I still have a runny nose and I HATE having the snot sucked out of me. I got to eat Arctic Char tonight. Yummy.

Skye stands up

Nevik: This weekend we were all sick. We all have the flu. We had to stay inside and do quiet play. Okay for a bit but I was getting restless and decided to jump up and down on the sofa and play tag. Maman and I made cookies today.

Skye: This being sick is no fun. I had to go to the hospital on Saturday night because I had a hard time breathing and Maman and Papa were freaking out. Then at the hospital I started freaking out because there were lights and people and stuff in my face and I just wanted to go to bed. Finally it all stopped and then Maman and I got to go to sleep. I woke up later and felt much better. So much so that I pulled myself up to standing today! Those legos were looking way too tempting.

Nevik: Lots of people came over today. Joel and Beans came over to bake a cake, and Genviève the architect came for lunch. We played Lego and Joel and I built spaceships and Maman built a castle. After lunch, I went with Joel to Jordan and Emi's house and got to watch a cartoon. I came home and then Marc came over and played with me. We played Legos. (again) We ate pasta for dinner and then Marc read Grover the Monster book to me.

Skye: There were all kinds of faces to look at today. I laughed and giggled.

Gym 'n Fun

Nevik: Today I went to school and we played music, ate race car cake because it was Alex' birthday, and did another drawing about feelings. I decided that I was happy in my drawing. We got to eat pizza for dinner -one that Papa and I went to go pick up at a restaurant! Yum! Yesterday I went to gymnastics and got to do the balance beam all-by-my-self. I can do a forward and backward somersault and the trampoline all by my self, too. I like gymnastics a lot. After class, we went to the pool to watch the divers as we ate our snack. When I am 5, I want to learn how to dive. On Monday, Grandmaman came to play with me. I love my Grandmaman.

Skye: This week I got to eat more purée - this time, squash! Oh and I got to go with Nevi to gym, which I like because I can roll on the floor and it is nice and bouncy. Today I went to the clinic and got my first vaccine - wow, that was unpleasant! The nice lady checked me out, weighed me (6.8kg) and measured me (65cm), said that I was growing nicely, and then Ouch! a big ole' needle in the thigh. Puh. So I was kind of grumpy for the rest of the day.

a slow week

Nevik: We have had a slow but fun week. Monday we hung out at home and some of my friends came to visit. We made a glorious mess. Then Christine came over and chatted with maman -boring. Tuesday was Gymnastics the Grandmaman's house, Wednesday school and today we stayed at home and made christmas decorations and baked bread.

Skye: Today I got to eat pea purée -yum!

A Weekend in Ottawa

Nevik: On Friday, Papa went to Ottawa because had a librarian's conference . Joel and Beans went, too. Maman, Skye and I decided to go explore some the great museums there, so there was a full carload on the 417 at 7 am. We dropped Joel and Beans off at his parents', and papa at the newly-renovated parlimentary library and headed to the Museum of Aviation. SO COOL. Full of planes, helicopters and jets. From the Noordryn Norseman to the Bombardier Challenger. I didn't want to leave. We met papa for lunch at the National Gallery, saw an exibit on modern Inuit art, and finished up the day at the Museum of Civilization. Whew. But we weren't finished! We went to Joel's parents house for dinner and a sleep over. I love sleep overs because I get to stay up extra late! Joel's house was really cool 'cuz he had all his toys still. I got to play with a nifty wooden house and Constructs. And there were 3 dogs - Beans, Maize and Maya. The next day, we drove to Grandmaman and Grandpapa's house. Maman went in the RJ simulator with Grandpapa and Jacques the farmer. I stayed and played with Grandmaman. Then today I went to a trumpet show in Outremont with Alex. It was neat. After Alex came over to have lunch and play.

Skye: I was pretty impressed by all the things to see in Ottawa. It made me sleepy. Now I like to jump up and down, so while we were at Joel's parents house I showed them I cute and good and jumpy I am. It was fun. I did the same thing at Grandmaman's house. While maman was in the simulator, papa gave me some soy milk with a spoon. I really liked eating from a spoon. Today I was tired so I had a big nap.

A Rainy Day

Nevik: It was a gray, rainy day. My friend Alex was a little sick, so I went over to his house to keep him company. We played with his toys - cars, trucks, airplanes, and trains. For lunch, my maman and I went and got sushi for everyone. I love sushi. I ate my whole plate. When we left Alex', we went to visit my aunt Elena. She has a cool store on Villeneuve called Ecodarling. I got to have a monkey juice while maman visited. My cousin Noémie dropped by, too. After, we stopped to see Beans, but no one was home. We waved at him through the door. At home, we played 'boat taking cargo to Greenland' and 'boat taking passengers to Greenland' using the pillows off the couch as boats.

Skye: I went to see my friend Talia and we both had a nap. I played on the activity mat with Alex' musical turtle. He also had a musical jungle that made lots of interesting noises. When we went to visit aunt Elena my maman abandoned me to go get coffee and I cried 'Maaaaammaaaaaan' the whole time. At home, I thought it was fun playing 'passenger ship' . During diner, I was given hard piece of bread - it was amazing! My parents have been holding out on me.

Nevik: This morning I had preschool and we did music and cooking. We made mini-pizzas. In the afternoon, we went to the Redpath museum and saw the dinosaurs and the mummies. There is a dinosaur in the entrance hanging from the ceiling that I call a lickasaurus.

Skye: I went to preschool with Nevi. I like it because all the kids play with me. Visiting the museum was fun- it was the first time I saw a dinosaur! We took the métro there. Lots of people said I was cute.

Nevik: This morning I slept in so I didn't go to gymnastics. Joan and Jacques from Charlevoix and mononquemarque came over for lunch. Jacques makes funny duck noises.

Skye: I met Joan and Jacques for the first time. I was on my best and cutest behavioir.

Nevik: I went to my friend Ella's house to play. She lives near Parc de l'ile de la Visitation so we went there to explore. We had a lot of fun climbing on the old mill. We saw mallard ducks and Canadian geese on the river. I wanted to feed them but every time I threw some bread, the seagulls kept stealing it. I didn't like that. In the afternoon I played with my farm with all the animals (dinosaurs included) and a giant kitty cat walked through the farm and got eaten by Tyrannosaurus Rex.

Skye: I like walks in the woods because there is so much to see. It makes me tired, so I fall asleep. Aren't I cute?

weekend fun

Nevik: We had a rock and roll weekend. It started with making cookies and brownies on Saturday, and then we brought them to the market to share with Jacques, Patrick and Diane. After we took the metro to Pointe St. Charles to attend my cousin Lola's baptism, which was in a big church and maman kept shushing me, but then, oh then, we got to go to my cousins house for the reception and play play play. They have a great playroom with lots and lots of toys. The best is that I got to stay up really really late. I loved it. On Sunday I felt fine, but my parents said I was a very tired boy, but what do they know anyway. We went for a walk in the woods at Mont St. Bruno. I had fun exploring a cave and playing in a tree.

Skye: I had a big huge nap on Saturday - 3 1/2 hours. It felt great. Then my parents made me stay up late with a bunch of people I didn't even know. Lame. I liked looking at the woods, but then I got tired so I had a nap. Sunday evening I felt quite rejuvenated so I stayed up extra late to keep my maman company. Must be all that fresh country air.

Nevik: In the morning I went to preschool and we talked about emotions. We played feeling games like scrunch up the newspapers to show anger and wrap ourselves up in blankets to show sorrow. I drew a picture of how I was feeling, and I decided that I was feeling angry and going grrrr like Tyrannosaurus Rex. I had lots of fun. In the afternoon I went with my mom and Skye to get cat food for Minou and Crépuscule and to mail a present to my Grandpa in Pennsylvania.

Skye: After Nevi went to preschool, I went to the marché and hung out with Jacques and Patrick. I had a nap on the way there, and another one at home in the afternoon. Then we went shopping and some ladies stopped my maman and said how cute I was. I smiled to them. Back at home, Nevi was making silly faces and I laughed.

Hangin' out

Nevik: Today my maman had a dentist appointment so I got to go to my friend Alex's house and play. Then we went out for Indian thali for lunch - I love curry! In the afternoon I got to go to my cousins' Toby and Vio for dinner. We had veggie burgers and fries - yummy!

Skye: I got to hang out with Grandmaman while maman was at her appointment. I fell asleep at the restaurant. Then I got to play with Vio - she thinks I have soft hair. Then I fell asleep at Vio's house.
